Constipation is a common problem in pregnancy and among kids
Don’t think just because you’re pregnant you should have to put up with constipation. There are some constipation remedies available to pregnant women, if diet and lifestyle tweaks don’t do the trick. Don’t worry, you weren’t the only one not to know, two thirds of women don’t realise. Getting constipated when you're pregnant is really common. It can be caused by:
- Your body making more of the female hormone progesterone
which relaxes your bowel muscles and makes it harder for them to do their job
- Iron supplements
- Changes in your diet
- Pressure from your growing baby
Too much advice...
There's so much advice out there for mums-to-be that it's hardly surprising 43% of you admit to being a bit confused by it all.
Some women also get constipated soon after they've had a baby, it’s totally understandable that we may want to avoid straining after giving birth!
Constipation can leave you feeling sluggish and tired on top of everything else your body's going through, but the good news is that you can help prevent it with a few diet and lifestyle changes.
